Armed Security Officer - Toledo, OhioPart-Time Protective Security Officer (PSO)Overview

Meritus Solutions Group (Meritus) is seeking professional Armed Security Officers to support federal facilities and government operations throughout the Toledo, Ohio area and surrounding locations.

This is a part-time position only . Full-time positions are not currently available. As full-time opportunities become available, eligible employees may bid on available shifts in accordance with applicable union rules and contract requirements.

This role is ideal for individuals with flexible schedules who can support operational staffing needs across multiple sites. Part-time officers primarily provide coverage for full-time personnel who are on vacation, sick leave, or otherwise unavailable.

Assigned work locations may include Toledo and surrounding areas such as Lima, Defiance, Sandusky, Bowling Green, and other nearby federal sites as operational needs require.

Position Summary

FPS Protective Security Officers (PSOs) are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of federal facilities, personnel, visitors, and government property.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Access control and visitor screening
  • Interior and exterior security patrols
  • Monitoring facilities and surrounding areas
  • Emergency response and incident management
  • Security inspections and perimeter checks
  • Maintaining accurate written reports
  • Enforcing federal security procedures and post orders

This position requires professionalism, flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate within a highly structured federal security environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a valid Social Security card
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Have one of the following:
    • Minimum two (2) years of security experience; OR
    • Prior military experience; OR
    • Prior law enforcement experience
  • Successfully pass a comprehensive federal background investigation
  • Have no felony convictions or domestic violence-related offenses
  • Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
  • Be capable of preparing accurate written reports
  • Successfully pass:
    • Medical evaluation
    • Drug screening

Note: Federal background investigations may require up to approximately three months to complete.

Company assistance will be provided during the federal clearance process.

Required Certifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Active Ohio OPOTA Armed Security License ( Required )
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR / First Aid / AED certification

Important: Applicants without an active OPOTA certification will not be considered.

Training Requirements

All officers must successfully complete required company and government training prior to independently standing post.

Required training includes:

  • One (1) week classroom instruction
  • One (1) week weapons/range training
  • Two (2) days of x-ray/screening training
Additional Training Information
  • Training is paid
  • New hires receive training pay
  • Training is conducted in Columbus, Ohio
  • Applicants must be available for in-person training requirements
  • All uniforms, duty gear, weapons, ammunition, OC spray, and equipment are company provided
Union Information

All officers assigned to this contract are represented by a union and are subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Compensation

Part-time employees may become eligible to bid on full-time positions if and when those positions become available under contract and union guidelines.
